Fashion is in a liberating place right now. Around 3 to 4 years ago, we stuck to general rules of combinations. No brown shoes underneath black trousers, not more than 3 colours per outfit no black and blue in the same look and definitely, most definitely not more than 1 printed item.
The rise of streetstyle blogs and social media have created the need for many to stand out from the crowd. We are not just reading a couple of style magazines each month, we are flushed with creative style input all day long via Instagram, Tumblr and streetstyle blogs.
Where are we at right now?
Stylists and those who want to be seen in the streets are literally combining every eyecatcher in their closet to get that one shot from a photographer. Casual is no longer chique. Well it is still chique, but so is leather combined with leopard print. I guess we could say that another type of chique came into existence: the art of combining contrasts. Being able to pull off a look with multiple coloured and printed items seems easy, but is it as easy as it looks? Let's just say that there is a very fine line between fashionable and cheap here.
